Quite a few weeks ago now, Chris and I went along with my inlaws to The Bishop Auckland food festival. This is the fourth year in a row we have visited and it didn't disappoint yet again.
Despite covering a smaller surface area than usual, there were still plenty of local breweries, food artisans and hot food stools available.
Usually the Bishop Auckland Food Festival or BAFF, is held in the Bishop Auckland castle and the grounds. You walk around the stalls in the market place, make your way down to the castle, finishing the market in the tipple tent (you could start there too if you really wanted!).
This year, the castle was under reconstruction so they had small bars instead of the huge tipple tent and a lot less stalls.
Dexter enjoyed it too, although we did have to carry him when the crowds all came out.
We arrived around 10am on the morning, just after the food festival started and it was lovely to walk around before the crowds started. It also meant we could sample breakfast AND lunch. For breakfast I got a beef filled yorkshire wrap - not really breakfast but was gorgeous.
Then for lunch, I got a brioche bun filled with pulled pork and coleslaw which was beautiful.
We picked up some garlic mayon from the Yorkshire rapeseed company as well as some other bits and pieces like bread, pies, sausages and cheese. We always have a carpet picnic (picky tea) the night of BAFF to sample all of the wares.
I picked up some coconut ice from one of the stalls which was gorgeous.
I will definitely be going back again next year. BAFF is usually on in April so keep an eye out for it as it is such a good day out - especially when you have nicer weather!
Is there a food festival near you that you like to go to?
