No 7 Lash Impact Mascara

Hi guys,

I have been using this mascara for quite some time and felt that it was time to review.

Firstly, its No7 so it isn't the cheapest brand available. It is priced at £13.50 Boots but you can often get the money off vouchers for No7 or at the moment the brand is on offer buy one get one for half price.

The packaging feels cheap for the brand but the design is so cute. I actually got this last Christmas and it is just now drying up so it will probably be featured in my All used up for October too!

The mascara is great for length but not so much for volume. It says it is for intense volume control but I found I still had to use another volumised mascara if I was going on a night out.

This was perfect for every day use, not so much a night out.

LINK here.

I don't think I will repurchase this product but if you have thicker lashes, this may be okay for you!!

Film Review: Me Before You

Hi guys,

I just wanted to share my thoughts on the film, Me before You. This film has been out a little while and I would definitely recommend it as a watch. Get the girls round and have a movie night with a glass of wine. Not only is it a heartbreaking story with a bittersweet ending, it also makes you laugh out loud along the way.

Book LINK Sequel LINK DVD LINK

Young and quirky Louisa "Lou" Clark (Emilia Clarke) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet. Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), a wealthy young banker left paralysed from an accident two years earlier. Will's cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined.

Lou Clark is one of the best characters ever written, I believe. The film is based on the book by JoJo Moyes & the good news is that there is a sequel too. Emilia Clarke (game of thrones) and Sam Claflin (hunger games) are the starring roles in this film and I don't think they could have picked anyone better. They absolutely make the film.

The film starts when Lou loses her job so heads to the job centre to find a replacement. She is desperate as her dad doesn't have a job, so needs to help contribute into the house. The job centre sends her off to the Traynor's home for an interview for a companion/carer. She obviously gets the job and the story that follows is all about Lou implementing herself into Will's life. Will is a quadriplegic meaning that from the neck down he has no movement or control over his body.

His life before the accident was very active and adrenaline fuelled so Will is battling his inner demons while Lou worms her way in.

For me, the film is portrayed extremely well. Having never been in a situation that has dealt with any form of disability, I am not sure how those who have will take to the film. I however, found it to be quite enlightening. It highlighted some aspects of the disability that I had never considered. This book is entirely fictional but in my opinion will really resonate with a lot of people. I found that it was a quite life affirming and it is one of those films that leaves you with a lot of questions about your own life and makes you realise, although that you may have bad days and hard times, someone out there is always worse off and may need more help than you!

It is a sad film and is quite heartbreaking but it is definitely recommended by me!

Hamilton Russell Arms, Thorpe Thewles

Hi guys,

So I had a little date night with my BFF and we went to a local pub to us. This pub is in Thorpe Thewles, which is a little village in Stockton-on-Tees.

I often go here with Chris, we often used to visit after viewing houses as we were so worn out!

I decided to go for the Chicken Parmesan. For those not of the North, a Chicken Parmesan is a chicken breast in breadcrumbs, topped with cheese and bechamel sauce. It is an absolute delicacy of the North and our pizza takeaway shops offer it on the menu.

This is the light bite, the "ladies parmesan". The meal was absolutely gorgeous. My friend, Charlotte, got the steak which looked good to. I loved the food, not so much the name!! Feminists would have a field day.

If you live in the North East and are looking for somewhere new to go, this is a high recommendation on my list.

The dessert was good, little bit angry that I didn't get a pic as you would have loved it! Eton Mess!

New House: Living Room

Hi guys,

So we have now fully decorated the living room and I have done it in a nautical style. Before, the room had a very bold floral print and that is just not our style at all. Our last living room felt quite cold as we had a lot of grey and black colours so we didn't want to transfer those over.

As you can see, the doggies like to look out of the window. They love that the chair is positioned in front of the venetians. Luna is the worst for it - she is super nosy and loves it when she gets to bark at anyone running past. Unfortunately for Luna, it is so quiet where we live that she only gets the occasional cat or seagull!

The furniture is Corona which is from British Heart Foundation. The company gets lots of new goods in and we got a great deal on a whole set. The sailing boat dog bed is from Poundstretcher. The boat is from The Range and the two glass rope jars were a gift from a friend!

I adore this paper. We hung it horizontally rather than vertical and it looks so much better. We got this from the papermill in Hartlepool - they sell online!

The small jute jars on the TV stand are from Dunelm Mill and the wall art is from The Range.

Luna spying on the new neighbours!

The large jars pictured here were an absolute bargain from B&M bargains. The large jars are so cute with the jute detail to the bottom. I have large pillar candles inside which when lit, provide a beautiful glow. The lighthouse ornament is from The Range and matches the boat perfectly. We also got these cute little pebble tealight holders and the starfish pile from The Range. The coasters are B&M.

I adore these Glade electrical wax melts. You can buy wax melts all over now and these cost only about £4 from Wilkinsons.

Pictured is some more of the Corona furniture - all available from the British Heart Foundation furniture store. It feels good to have bargain furniture supporting an amazing charity. Also, this furniture is amazing for upcycling so if you can't find anything in a good colour, you can buy some of this furniture and pastel chalk paint it.

The vintage, distressed wall stars are from The Range. The colours are absolutely amazing and it looks so good with the other furniture. They are a real stand out piece in the room.

Cushions were so easy to find and we got them at The Range and Dunelm Mill. Nautical is so in fashion at the moment so there are great pieces everywhere.

On the coffee table is a tray that I have had for a while. This is great for when having tea or just as some tidy storage. This driftwood candle holder was bought as a gift from Whitby by my parents-in-law. It is REAL driftwood. I am going to go to the same place soon to pick up a mirror too!

Master Bedroom Makeover

Hi guys,

When we moved, I think the best room to finish was our bedroom. I still now feel a little unsettled in the house, I don't know if its because I am not used to it or it still doesn't feel like mine, but having my room decorated make me feel a lot better.

In our old house we had got into our routine and even things like putting away clothes etc. all had a rhythm and I feel like this is just not happening at the moment.

I have got some plans for a walk in wardrobe, so I am hoping this will be the cherry on the cake!

For our room, I wanted it to be glam and relaxing!

The wallpaper is from B&Q. It was £25 a roll. The table lamps are Argos and the gold candle holder is from B&M. My unicorn moneybox is from Paperchase and I adore this. I can't bring myself to put any coins in there yet.

For decorating the bed, our actual bedding is from Dunelm Mill. I am going to buy a huge bedspread soon to keep us warm over the Winter. To create some glamour, I bought different textured cushions; fur, sequin and glitter. This just adds different dimensions to the look.

The curtains are a heavy crushed velvet feel and hang beautifully. The colour matches so well too.
Our bed we also got from Argos. The bed is so glam and I am going to buy a matching chaise shortly!

The light pendant is from Wilko. I did originally want an overhanging chandelier but I decided against it when I saw this. I love the effect it has when switched on.

We have fitted wardrobes, a chest of drawers and dressing table in the room but they aren't permanent fixtures due to the planned walk in wardrobe so I will definitely update you when that happens!

Finally, this is our view from our bedroom. We adore it. There is a train line that runs past but we hardly hear a train going past - oddly I find it quite comforting. On a Sunday morning, there is nothing better than snuggling in bed with a mag or book, cup of tea & watching the cows/horses in the field.

The Body Shop: Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask

Hi guys,

So in a recent haul post I said how I had wanted to try these face masks and then picked one up. I got the Himalayan Charcoal face mask from The Body Shop. It is the purifying glow mask, designed to unclog pores and reveal your glow.

I am an absolute sucker for a face mask. There is something so decadent about being laid in a Lush bombed bath with a face mask and a glass of wine.

So, the face mask comes in a little box, so perfect gift material if you have a beauty product lover in the family. The actual tub is a lovely design and looked on my beauty product's shelf. Now, this face mask is priced at £15 and it isn't the biggest of tubs. However, the sales assistant in the branch said that you only need a very small amount and you actually do.

I spread a thin layer on my face and there wasn't much dent in the tub. It has a grainy feel to it and smells amazing. After a couple of minutes, the face mask started to dry on my face and changed from a brownish colour to an actual green clay. You then leave it on for about 10 minutes (or an hour like I did, oops!) and then rinse it off.

I then used the Body Shop seaweed toner afterwards to remove anything "unclogged."

Instantly, I noticed a softer feel to my skin which was great. I wouldn't say I glowed the next day but I did feel improvement in my skin. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what it looks like after a few masks!

James Viana Jewellery

Hi guys,

I wanted to introduce you to James Viana Jewellery. This brand won me over at first with their mission statement, "James Viana exists to help every woman "feel beautiful". So not only do they have the most beautiful jewellery, they also donate 10% of their profits to charities supporting causes for women. You can follow their amazing work here.

Their jewellery products are all the purest sterling silver with genuine gemstones. At James Viana, their passion for their jewellery shows through their website and they way they describe each gemstone, which are sourced from all over the world. Their jewellery is also super glamorous at such good prices.

One of the best features of the website is the Gemstone Guide which provides the colours & meanings of all of the gems featured in their jewellery. Take a look here.

I have this Citrine bracelet which is absolutely darling. I am such a fan of classical jewellery, something that you can wear everyday and has an elegant style to it. If you want to take a look at it online then follow this LINK here.

Citrine Jewellery ...
"Citrine is regarded as a “joyful stone”. It fosters good fortune and good luck. It derived its name from the French for lemon, citron. According to gemstone lore, citrine not only radiates positive energy, but it also dispels negative energy too. It is powered by the sun and cleanses and energises.
A gemstone that has remained popular throughout the ages often celebrated for its rarity. Its most natural form remains uncommon in nature to this day, giving it tremendously high value. The Citrine gemstones used by James Viana are indeed rare and beautiful to behold. Their characteristic golden-yellow sheen gives them the individuality you seek.
Derived from the French word ‘Citron’ which means lemon, the Citrine is much beloved for its hues. The gemstone was said to be used by the Romans during the engraving process of their most royal sanctuaries. A gemstone that is revered as a symbol of the renaissance of art during difficult times, it now stands as a staple of vivacious jewellery collections.  "

Here are my other top picks on my Christmas wishlist ...

The Girl on the Train: Movie & Book Review + GIVEAWAY!!

Hi guys,

So before I get to the giveaway, I wanted to review the book AND the film, The Girl on The Train. The book is written by Paula Hawkins and is an absolute global bestseller.

When I downloaded the book onto my Kindle for my recent hol, I was expecting a thriller similar to Gone Girl. Everyone was raving about it and as I started to read it, I was disappointed - at first. The more I continued to read, the more I was hooked.

Amazon LINK here.
Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. ‘Jess and Jason’, she calls them. Their life – as she sees it – is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough.

Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar.

Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train…

I suppose as you are on a train, you do look out of the window and spot different people in their homes each time and your mind does wander and think about what they could be upto, what they do for jobs, what their home lives are like. This is what it was like for Rachel. She spied a couple in a house and automatically assumed that they were the perfect couple with the perfect house and perfect life. However, when the female half of the couple goes missing - Rachel becomes obsessed with what happened to her and discovering the cracks in the "perfect" couple's life. Rachel has a lot of her own life problems and there is a bit of a twist at the end. Points if you figure it out beforehand, I did. I found this book intriguing. I don't give up on books but I did think about it at the beginning.

Some of Rachel's issues are very REAL. However, the plot line did seem a little unreachable although Gone Girl is equally as weird and incomprehensible. Through reading the book, I didn't like Rachel at all. That has never really happened to me previously. However, when I got to the end and more and more of the story unravelled, I felt like I understood her more and didn't really not like her at all!

It isn't often that I enjoy the movie more than the book but I think I did in this case. The film was a very good representation of the book, although you do get more background in the book which is probably how I realised the twist. I don't think its the cleverest book I have read and it definitely isn't Gone Girl BUT it was a good read.

The movie features Emily Blunt as Rachel. I was a little bit wary of her as Rachel as I didn't know whether I would believe her as this character but I did. She was absolutely brilliant and definitely made this film. There was a LOT of uproar at the beginning.

GIVEAWAY!!

I am giving away a copy of The Girl on The Train for you at home!

All you have to do is "like" my facebook page (at the side of this page)
& comment below on this post!

The competition will be drawn on Saturday 12th November at 8pm!!

Good luck, Rachael xox

Halloween movie night in ... Ten Top Movies

Hi guys,

I am looking forward to getting dressed up on the weekend of Halloween to attend a party or two, but I am equally excited to watch movies on the night of!

Get the candles lit, popcorn and pumpkin hot chocolate and snuggle on the sofa with the dogs and other half. I don't even mind having to deal with trick or treaters at the door, although having to pause said movies is a bit of a pain.

So, I have compiled a little list of my favourite Halloween-ish movies. I am not a big fan of horror or gore, they are so out of the question. I am more inclined to watch the child friendly, non jumpy version.

1. Hocus Pocus (LINK here)

2. Edward Scissorhands (LINK here)

3. The Nightmare before Christmas (also for Christmas!!) (LINK here)

4. Practical Magic (perfect for a girls' night) (LINK here)

5. Coraline (LINK here)

6. Corpse Bride (LINK here)

7. Casper (LINK here)
8. Halloween Town (LINK here)

9. Labyrinth (LINK here)

Halloween Decorations ...

Hi guys,

So I will definitely be attending a Halloween party or two this year. I love getting dressed up in a costume. I thought about having my own Halloween party but with decorating and super busy with work, I just can't face the thought of the planning and then clean up the day after.

However, I decided to have a little look at Halloween decorations. Matalan is so good for home decor and fashion and I buy a lot from there. Halloween this year is on an obscure day so we will probably be at a party on the Saturday night.

It got me to thinking that I may have a few friends round on Halloween night for some movies and cakes! I took a little look online and found these Halloween decs at Matalan!

1. Cake stand £4
2. Skeleton Cage £10
3. Pumpkin string lights £6
4. Happy Halloween bunting £2
5. Boo hanging decoration £4
6. Tealight holder £8
6. Pumpkin Wall light £5

Happy Halloween!!

Wickford & Co Seasonal Candles ... Yankee Candle dupes

Hi guys,

I wanted to share with you some absolute bargains. I got these candles at the weekend in Home Bargains. I love Home Bargains as they always get some absolutely great home items in at such low prices. I changed all of my drawer handles in my bedroom for crystal door knobs for only £2.99 for 4!

At first I thought these candles were the Yankee versions at a glance but then I realised they were Wickford & Co. I have had this brand previously; their Summer range smelled divine.

First, is the Halloween range. These smell so sweet, almost like starburst or fruity lollies. Definitely a Halloween smell.

Gingerbread is absolutely gorgeous, such a sweet Christmas smell. I cannot wait to come home and have my house smell like this. I got a couple of smaller and the large jar in this version as this was my favourite smell. The pic on the jar is cute too so these would make excellent gifts or stocking fillers.

The warm apple and cinnamon is probably a more grown up smelling candle. Ideal for a cosy evening in with a glass of cider or mulled wine. I adore the smell of cinnamon and use it in everything when baking (not often) or eating dessert (all the time).

The large candle jars are only £2.99 and the smaller ones are 99p. Bargain!!

Lush, Boots & Asda Haul ...

Hi guys,

Remember when I said I was trying not to shop too much due to the move and grabbing a massive haul beforehand so I wouldn't need anything?

Well...

So, I have made a start on Christmas shopping and bought a few Lush gift sets for family and I couldn't resist these two bath bombs. I got this star dust bath bomb (LINK here) which was only £2.95. It smells absolutely gorgeous - like vanilla! I also got this Candy Mountain bubble bar (LINK here). This was only £2.95 too. This smells amazing too, it smells like vanilla but a sweeter and fruitier note.

I then popped in to Boots - the 3 for 2 is here! I picked up this Colgate Max White Toothbrush and whitening pen. It was priced at only £11.99. You can store the whitening pen in the bottom of the toothbrush. I am looking forward to trying this as I have read so much about it.

I THEN went shopping to Asda! BIG Mistake, HUGE (Pretty Woman reference!)

I have been suffering with my skin recently and although I don't want to overload it, I am going to try all of these products but still be very careful as to not antagonise my skin!

Asda is great for beauty products as they do their rollback offers and you can pretty much guarantee to find a lot of products at better prices than elsewhere.

Herbal Essences Shampoo & Conditioner - apple
Pantene Pro V Classic Clean
Nivea Lip Butter Coconut
Nivea Lip Butter Blackberry
Garnier Skin Active Pure Active 2 pk masks
Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Masks
Garnier Moisture Bomb Night Cream
Neutrogena oil free moisturiser
Neutrogena rapid defence treatment

Let me know if there's anything you want reviewing individually!!
